Food Pantry

The Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry helps provide food for families in temporary financially difficult times within our congregation and the surrounding community. Participating in the food drive is a tangible way to express thanks for God's blessings in your family"s lives while helping those less fortunate.

Thanks to everyone who donated during the May food drive.  If you didn't have a chance to contribute, you still can!

Let us do your shopping!  A donation of $35 will purchase an order for a family of four.

Every needy family that comes through the pantry is offered:
crackers, rice, instant potatoes, macaroni, spaghetti, 3 mac and cheeses, 4 raman noodles, juice, dishwashing liquid, laundry soap, cooking oil, pancake mix, pancake syrup, sugar, flour, 4 cans of fruit, 4 cans of soup, 8 cans of vegetables, 2 small cans of tomato sauce, 3 cans of tuna, peanut butter, jelly, beans, spaghetti sauce, cereal, oatmeal, bar soap, and 4 rolls of toilet paper.

Feed the hungry and help those in trouble.
Then your light will shine out from the darkness,
and the darkness around you will be bright as day.
Isaiah 58:10

Who are we?
The Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry opened in January 2000 to provide food and spiritual support to those experiencing difficult times. In 2006 we have served 84 families consisting of 534 people.

Who do we serve?
Our #1 priority is to serve the members of our congregation and any of their relatives, friends or acquaintances. If you know of someone going through difficult financial times, who has a spouse in the Middle East or someone that lost their job and could use the food pantry ministry we want to help. We also serve the surrounding community, including Southern Johnson and Northern Miami counties (loosely bounded by I-435 on the north, Louisburg on the south, Gardner on the west and Grandview on the east.)

Where are we located? What are our hours?
The pantry is located between the youth center kitchen and the offices. Our hours are Saturdays 10 AM to noon and weekdays by appointment.  If you are a SouthWoods attender, you may contact Darrell Clement, Food Pantry Director or Jackie Rogers at the church office, 913-681-5105 and we will provide food and spiritual support in an anonymous and respectful manner.

Where do we get our food?
The food pantry is stocked by the generosity of our congregation, Dillon's Bakery Department, assorted food drives conducted by local businesses, scout troops and others. Our Annual Golf Outing also supports the Loaves and Fishes Food pantry.

How Can I Help?
Volunteer your time on Saturdays from 10 AM to Noon serving in our food pantry or get involved with one of our food drives. Contact Darrell Clement for more information. We can always use your prayers that we can keep our shelves stocked, our Ministry team fully staffed and for spiritual support for the people that come through our doors.

Thank you for your continued support and blessings!
